Lovely Quote
I get daily sends from a dear man in Ohio, among which is his 'Daily Quotes'. Yesterday he sent all quotes from Robin Williams, either as himself or as a character. True, I am always stunned with what Robin can do in a 'serious' role, but these words resonated in me and I felt I must share them with those I know will understand the resonance.

Thank you, Gwen, for posting Robin Williams' words from "Dead Poet's Society. There is such truth in those words. I have always felt sorry for those who never read poetry, for they are missing so much.

I am more turned on by poetry when I HEAR it! That's what poetry was intended for, I believe.
You are right, Lorijayne, to hear someone read poetry is far better than reading to yourself. Providing, that is, that the reader has the talent. The poet usually does, but sometimes people, other than the poet him/herself can butcher the words to where they lose their meaning, in which case I choose to curl up in a comfortable chair and lose myself in the poet's written words.

There is nothing like reading a poem aloud, and feeling your way through it to the truth at the heart of it.
And, yes, faucon, it is revealing to read one's poetry aloud. Meaning and emotion are far clearer that way, as are the parts where we falter. I will read a poem aloud several times before I complete it, and again after I have edited it, to be surer of the poem's cohesiveness.
