Black Night

Oh, for the peace of the dark veil -
the welcome hiding from the din
of sociability -
St John's black -
the dark night of the soul -
the Night,
giving life
in the unexpected,
black-rabbit-soft void.
Blessed be the night
that is dark -
without it there
would be no peace.

One day I am going to write a piece researching WHY there is such a stigma against "solitary contemplation". I welcome your comments and understand your reasoning about the "djin". Seeing between the stars is a concept I am using in a novel, indeed the spaces between the notes form the notes, and vice versa...One thing I will add is some history on hermits...in the Regency period a hermit would stay on a nobleman's property who acted as his keeper, and in return the hermit would act as private counsellor, should there be any concerns the nobleman would like to air. There is a wood spirit, travelling seer connotation to this I was interested to hear about...

I love the mystery of the night ... the dark that wraps itself like a blanket about you. Sitting on my porch at night and watching the progression of the universe is a gift that I turn to again and again. I have solved more problems sitting on the porch than I can count.

Beautifully written, Monika.

It is not only the stigma of the night that fascinates me Monika. So many thing have been demonized and it is time to shed some of this thinking. Personally I have always believed that there is light to be found in the darkest of places.

Agreed Vi! There is not enough porch sitting going on! I love the blanket image. Also, Heather, agreed totally. The most ridiculous things are demonized and are then called a fashion, plastered on a poster, screened on the media, and from there we can only gape at the ridiculous...
