The Scent of Water...

Perhaps it is my star sign, but I am always drawn to water, and I have been exploring the water ways of the Abbey.
There is a well, of course, near the Abbey itself, built of heavy old stones covered with moss and creepers. It's deep but I can see the glint of dark water below as I lean over the edge. The stones around the top are worn smooth with many generations of hands touching them, like a Buddha's belly...and like the Buddha, they are irresistable to the touch.
I believe the water supply to the Abbey comes from the spring up on the hill - it has the same lovely clear taste, like drinking pure light. I go often to the well of the spring now - it has become one of my favourite places at the Abbey. I love to watch the water tumble down the rocks into the stream below. This is a place of enchantment, with wild violets peeping out from shadowed places and wild herbs filling the air with their own distinctive scents. Taking a closer look at the source, I was delighted to find a lion's head so carved into the rock that the water gushes from its mouth like a gift of life to the ground below. I don't know if time and the elements or a human hand carved this rock - it is just one of the many wonders you find here that needs no explanation.

They say water is magnetic -- I was attracted to your images, and feel they come to life, and the beautiful homages to nature. (Monika)
