Distractions...

I have been distracted by the lovely weather. Spring is here and I am finally getting to my first ever veggie garden. I am finding inspiration in the microcosm of my little piece of earth.

I have finally concluded that the distractions and interruptions in life are usually far more important than the tasks we set for ourselves.

Enjoy!

Luna! Ok! You got me excited!
Your first ever veggie garden. Yooo
Whooo! This is a cause for celebration girls! Please tell us what all you are planting, Luna. Your fresh birth in gardening might kindle this old gardeners soul.

Luna are you named after the moon?
Your little piece of earth.
I started a business one time Luna and it was named A Little PEACE of Earth. Oh I cannot wait to hear what you are planing. Please do tell.

What kind of soil do you have? Did you need to work it up? Our soil here is pure clay. I like to tell everyone that Once upon a time a giant lived here and she made a huge clay pot ,then before she fired it a big rain came and she left it outside and it all melted down and that is what my hill is made out of.

Well this meant that we had to drag all kinds of compost unto the place, horse manure, straw, leaves, anything we could get our hands on , kitchen compost, give me your leftovers I would tell my neighbors I need them for my dirt!

You are absolutely right Believer, It IS the complelling distractions that are important. Because that is where we find our joy.

And joy is the most important thing
I think maybe.

Hi Tren,

I am happy to respond to your enthusiasm. I live in Arizona in the high desert at 3500 feet. It gets cold to the teens and up to 112 degrees in the height of summer. It’s extreme gardening here. Winter gardens do well here with cold frames.

My soil is sandy but 14 inches down there is hard clay. My garden soil was amended with my friends help. My house is 70 years old so there has always been a garden where I placed mine and luckily the soil was pretty good.

I have planted yellow pear tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, crookneck squash, zucchini, watermelon, Italian parsley, Basil, some flowers for color, red and white cabbage and brown onions.

I wanted to try really easy stuff so I am not discouraged. Next year I would probably try growing from seed. I was really at the mercy of my local nursery for plants and I prefer veggies I cannot find at the market.

I haven’t started my compost pile yet. But I plan to sometime this summer.

Planning the garden has been a worthy distraction and one that set my daydreams free to run amuck. I have to agree with Believer, your words are very well put.

I have to grin at the thought that others are interested in my garden. It brings me much pleasure to hear from you.

Blessings!
