I have taken to growing Peruvian Lillies and Princess Lillies which are a strain of this plant. They are such graceful creatures. As a regular flower buyer I find the Peruvians are relatively inexpensive and make such a wonderful show on my mantlepiece. This vase full is simply gorgeous Winnie.

My friends Tami and Shaheda sent me Peruvian Lilies while I was in the hospital. It was, first of all, possibly the largest bouquet of cut flowers I have ever seen - beauty overwhelming. I fell in love with the Lily of the Inca. They are the most fascinating flower; they would look like they were completely dead and when you added new water they would stand absolutely straight again like they had been given a new lease on life. They lived over three weeks after having been mailed to me in a box. I decided they were a beautiful metaphor about all sorts of things - resilience, rebirth, endurance and the importance of drinking plenty of water! I just bought some more pink ones and mixed them with red roses. Beautiful.
