Frontline Battlefield

In Greek mythology, the Amazons were either an ancient legendary nation of female warriors or a contemporary land of women at the outer edges of the world - a world much like Lemuria.

According to Greek mythology, the Amazons were a warlike tribe of women descended from the god of war, Ares (and the nymph Harmony), and were founders of the town of Themiscyra in a country on the River Thermodon. War, hunting and agriculture were their principal pursuits.

Two queens, one for defense and one for domestic affairs, ruled their kingdom. Under their military queen, the Amazons were a mighty army of mounted warriors bearing ivy-shaped shields and double-bladed battleaxes. At home, the Amazons lived peacefully supplying all their own economic needs and producing artistic treasures coveted far outside their borders. For some 400 years (1000-600 B.C.E.), they held sway over that part of Asia Minor along the shores of the Black Sea.

Tonight as Darryl and I face ‘The Terminator’ I have a new appreciation that these warrior women are really a memory of a spiritual power, which wasn’t ethereal or wispy but fully embodied and vigorous. The Amazonian has been alive and well in me for over five years now. The practice of using female power, not to conquer or suppress men but as a creative force, has been passed down by the women of my bloodline. We are not known to give up easily and have a range of armoury at our disposal.

Darryl’s cancer is in the rectal area and pelvis. He cannot have surgery or radiation so chemotherapy is the only line of attack left. Our oncologist has weaponry left in his arsenal and is already managing pain which has been ravaging him over the past weeks. The hope is that the cancer is slow growing and that new chemotherapy drugs will arrest the spread, retard the growth and provide him with quality of life for another eighteen months.

So if the Abbey, whose treasures are coveted far outside its borders, seems hushed and quiet it is because the Warrior Queen has left with her mighty army of mounted warriors to do battle with the cowardly alien that keeps rising out of the debris and ashes of a war scarred landscape.

Someone needs to keep the Abbey lights on so please keep posting and working peacefully within our walls. I will send messages from the battlefields.

My prayer for you and Darryl is that your journey through this time of his illness will be a journey of love, discovery, and good times together. A time of confidences and confidence. Graham told me last week that "Confidence" in its original sense meant "con fides," or "with faith."
Gird your loins, stand tall, be staunch.

Know, Heather, that you and Darryl are constantly in my prayers and thoughts. If collective prayer is as powerful as they say it is, you are in good hands.

May the Goddess take you both in her arms and do what she does best and that is to heal.

Ginger, too, is thinking of you and sending her healing thoughts.

Love and hugs, Vi

Thank you so much for your support. It means so much to me. I know I have an army of word warriors to support me and I will be calling on you all to help me during this time. Darryl's pain has been eased since he saw the oncologist and hopefully the chemotherapy will shrink this wily enemy.
